October 1, 2008

KING John Stanley 1918 - 2008 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, John Stanley King, on Friday September 26, 2008 with his loving family at his side. John was born on August 4, 1918 in Sounding Lake, Alberta to Stanley Bernard and Clara King. He served with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps in Canada during the Second World War. On April 18, 1946 he married Mary Lou Wiles and they farmed together north of Lacombe for 17 years. In 1963 John and Lou moved from the farm to an acreage outside Lacombe and John began a career working at the Lacombe Federal Research Station in the Cereal Crops Division until his retirement. Once retired, John and Lou built a new home in town and John continued his commitment to community fundraising projects and organizations including the new indoor pool, the Legion, Maski-Pitoon Historical Society and his church. John and Lou shared many adventures travelling and taking endless photographs. Friends and family remember John's spare time being occupied with gardening and wood working, both of which were generously shared around the neighbourhood. He was predeceased by his wife Mary "Lou" in 2003 and his three sisters, Bessie, Hilda, Ruth, and his twin brother Basil, and his daughter-in-law Rosalynne (Ro) King in 2007. John leaves to mourn his passing his son Ron and his children, Patricia and Crystal (Phillip Thompson), son Bob (Sarina) and their children Dennis (Beverley), Michael (Connie) and Deanna (Rod Gabrielson), and daughter Nancy (Dave Donley), and their son David Jr. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Madeleine and Allyda (Dennis and Beverley) and Taylor and Keaton (Crystal and Phillip).
