John Lawson MacDonald Johnston (Mac) passed away on March 12, 2020. Mac was born on August 14, 1933 on Peters Road, Prince Edward Island. He is predeceased by his parents Lester Clair Johnston and Bernice Jane MacDonald Johnston. He is survived by his wife Shirley, daughter Jane (Ivan}, son Iain (Colleen), grandchildren Katherine, Megan, Michael, Kimberly and Rachel. Brother David (Jane).
Mac graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelor of Science in Geology and obtained his Bachelor of Law degree from Dalhousie University. He was admitted to the Bar in 1962 and appointed to the Queens Council in 1977. Mac served on numerous boards provincially and nationally including a term as President of the Canadian Cancer Society and NWT Division. He also served as a member of Legacies and Planning Committee of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Foundation, a director of the Canadian Investment Development Corporation, a National Director for the Canadian Cancer Society, and president of the Red Deer Provincial and Federal Progressive Conservative Associations. In 1988 Mac was awarded the Canadian Cancer Societies 50th Anniversary Certificate for Outstanding Contributions to the Organization. Mac was a member of the Rotary Club of Red Deer, the Masonic Lodge and the Red Deer Shriners Club.
