October 24, 1933 - December 7, 2018
Mr. John MacDonald Thomson died peacefully at home on Friday, December 7, 2018 while watching curling on television. Born and raised on the family farm in the Little Red Deer District, he lived on the same piece of land for 80 years.

In 2014 he moved to Innisfail so that son Warren and his family could live on the farm and continue the legacy. John enjoyed the opportunity to inspect the property and act as a consultant. John was a committed family man, farmer and a television enthusiast when it came to sports, weather, and news. In his younger years he curled in the local league and travelled to many bonspiels. He also enjoyed annual hunting trips with his friends, and traipsing around the district to dances. He was a member of the Farm Fire Brigade, sat on the Innisfail Library Board and the R.E.A.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Barbara (Johnston) of 47 years, daughter Wendy (Gabriel) Goldsmith, and grandsons Rowan and Caspar of Vancouver; son Warren (Michelle) Thomson and grandson Jack of Innisfail; and daughter Valerie (Paul) Viccars and grandchildren Kenny and Margaret of Calgary. He also leaves behind his sisters: Kay Thomson, Jean Bennett, Pat Hornby; sisters-in-law Carol Ehrman, Diane (Jeff) Luxen, June Bevan; brothers-in-law Doug (Marie) Johnston, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by parents Margaret (Simpson) and Jack Thomson, brothers-in-law Ed Ehrman, Bob Hornby, Russell Bennett, Jim Johnston and Ron Johnston.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Innisfail United Church on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in John's memory to the Innisfail Historical Society or to a charity of their choice.
