In loving memory ~
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Vincent, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend to many. John passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital surrounded by his family at the age of 86 after a courageous battle with Dementia. He was the eldest son of Jack and Peggy Vincent of Pine Lake. John loved to say that his life began when he married our mother, Helen Davidson in 1960.
After their marriage, John and Helen along with his brother, Douglas, took over the family farm near Pine Lake that was originally owned by their grandparents. The brothers worked hard together until 1969. Later, with the help of his sons, Terry and Garry, they grew the farm to be a productive modern farm that it is today. Dad was a true optimist, believing that there would always be enough rain, enough warm weather and enough time to harvest. We were very fortunate to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Vincent Family Farm in 2019. Dad was active in his community in many ways but the one thing he was most proud of was his service to the Elks of Canada, Delburne Lodge, serving as Exalted Ruler many times. Dad also curled for many years and started to golf in his 70's. He loved to watch and support his grandchildren in any of their activities. He was quiet, humble, extremely hard working and loved his family fiercely. He created a proud, strong family that is very close. Dad taught us many things but the most significant were to provide service to your community, have a good work ethic, and the importance of family. We will miss him so much.
John is survived by his loving wife, Helen, and his children Betty Ann (Bruce) Patterson, Marilyn (Tim) Hawirko, Terry (Kerri) Vincent and Garry (Sherry) Vincent. His grandchildren, who are his pride and joy, William (Jennifer), Michelle (Mike), Rachelle (Chris), Jennifer (Adam), Alex (Taylor), Jordan (Elyse), Kristen (Dan), Stephanie (Jacob), Samantha (Travis), and Hollie (Ryley). His legacy lives on in his great-grandchildren, Elisabeth, Stella, Pierce, Graeme, Alice, Clara, Lochlan and Thatcher. He is also survived by his sister Jean Tweed, brother Douglas (Phyllis) Vincent; his honorary brothers Ken (Jean) Ellis and Reg (Denise) Ellis; his brother-in-law David (Barbara) Carmichael as well as many cousins. John was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Margaret Hicks and Sheila Carmichael and brothers-in-law Paul Hicks and Vernon Tweed as well as special aunt, May Ellis.
The family would like to thank Aspen Ridge Retirement Community and Red Deer Regional Hospital, Unit 33 for their loving care of Dad. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer's Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
