Joseph Howard (Howie) Baxter passed away peacefully at the Red Deer General Hospital at the age of 90.
Howie leaves behind his wife, Nancy Baxter, as well as his daughter, Shannon Lu, grandchildren, Amanda and David as well as step-children, Susan, David and Andrew. Howie was born in Semans, Saskatchewan, the second of four siblings.
He graduated from high school there and joined the Armed Forces in the fall of 1947. His career in the military took him to postings all over Canada and in France. While he served his country, he completed a degree in engineering and later added a degree in computer science. He was a life-long learner and until his later years was a wonderful conversationalist.
He retired from the military in 1976 and went to work for Rockwell International, first in Toronto and then in Iowa. He was part of the team that built the Canadarm for the space station. Howie held family in the highest regard and regularly travelled around Canada and the United States to visit relatives. He will be terribly missed by all those how loved him and knew him well.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 2p.m.at Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718 50st. Red Deer.
