December 21, 1937 - February 8, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mr. Joseph Ignace 'Joe' Koziol of Red Deer, surrounded by his family, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the age of 82 years. Joe was born on December 21, 1937 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where he was raised. He went on to marry the love of his life, Janice Graham, in July of 1963. The couple lived and worked in various towns in Saskatchewan. While Joe was working at Peavey Mart, he and Janice fell in love with Red Deer, and settled here in 1974. Joe co-founded Ko-Hen Electronics in 1977. He continued with the company until he retired and passed the reins on to his son and daughter-in-law. He had a lifelong love of steam engines and the railroad era after working at the Canadian Pacific Railway as a young man. After Joe retired, he picked up a camera and pencil and spent his spare time taking landscape and wildlife photographs, and sketching train scenes and birds of prey.
Joe will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Janice Koziol (Graham); his son, Brent (Nonette) Koziol of Red Deer, Alberta; his daughter, Sandra Koziol of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia and his four grandchildren, Katie, Dominic, Graham and Jared. He will also be very missed by his niece, Brenda (Fred) White and his great nieces, Aremanda (Blair) Fleischhacker, Kendra White and Raelynn White. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Ignace Koziol; his brother, John Walter; a niece, Janice Firlotte; and a nephew, Michael Koziol. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the many doctors, nurses and health care assistants who provided him with such great care and compassion in the last few years.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held in the summer. A date and time will be shared with those who would like to come and join us in remembering him.
