ARCUS Joshua and Raya (Hafso) Arcus Josh: Aug. 4,1976- April 3, 2007 Raya: June 29, 1977-April 3, 2007 We are the music makers, And we are the dreamers of dreams… It is with the greatest sadness in our lives that we announce the sudden passing of Josh and Raya on April 3, 2007. Josh was born and raised in Adelaide, Australia. He was a truly unique individual. He is loved by and will be very missed by his family and numerous friends in Australia and around the world. Josh leaves behind his mum Judy (and her husband, Rob), his dad, Geoff (and his wife, Rachael), his sister, Naomi and her husband, Paul Kusic and Josh's nephews, Noah Paul and Oliver Joshua. Josh's adventurous spirit led him to many countries including the Philippines, Mongolia, China and Russia. He met Raya in 1997 in the Northern Territory of Australia on a mission trip and this began a 6 year email and package sending friendship which culminated in him moving to Calgary in 2004. Raya was born in Drumheller and raised in Red Deer, Alberta. Raya leaves behind her mom and dad, Ruth and Ches Hafso; sister, Tavia; nephew, Koen Gabriel; brothers, Kjel and Jaden and sister-in-law, Zosia; grandparents, Art and Val Dahlen, and Roy and Alice Hafso. Raya traveled extensively and had friends all over the world. She met Josh during her travels in Australia where they fell in love. Josh was a musician and Raya loved singing back-up vocals with him at his gigs. They had an army of friends who loved them and supported them unconditionally. They got married in Adelaide, Australia and moved to Calgary where they lived for the last two years. Raya taught English as a second language and was a warm and fun-loving teacher. They had just set off on a new adventure, packed up their car with guitars and a keyboard, and their cat Sicily, and started their move to magical Montreal. Josh was to continue his creative job as a barista and was also planning to get involved in the music scene there; Raya was starting a new job, and hoping to get pregnant by the time they went back to visit family and friends this coming Christmas in Adelaide. They had a car full of dreams and songs to write. But they didn't make it through the road trip to Montreal. In our mourning we see their faces and know that we are responsible to carry their dreams. They were driving with the angels, and they have gone ahead of us, to take the place that their God and their Father has prepared for them. Thank you so much Father for allowing us to have Josh and Raya in our lives. We celebrate the laughter, compassion, joy, and love for life and the simplest pleasures in life that they shared with us. "Your Beauty… (Raya and Josh) was that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight." 1 Peter 3:3-4. The Funeral will be held at the CrossRoads Church, Queen Elizabeth Highway 2 and 32 Street, Red Deer on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Donations can be made in honour of Raya and Josh at World Vision Canada, where they sponsored a little boy from Brazil.
