HOLMES (nee MCKENZIE) Joy Laverne Holmes (nee McKenzie) passed away on July 5, 2005 in Rocky Mountain House at the age of 62 after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. Joy was born and raised in Red Deer, where she married Barry Holmes in 1967, spending the first five years of married life in Vancouver. The family moved to Rocky Mountain House in 1972, where Joy became involved in many activities including assisting special needs students and community theatre. Her passion was her family, friends, and cooking. She took great delight in seeing her family and guests enjoy a great meal. Joy is survived by her husband Barry, sons Barry, Gregory, and Russell, mother Elsa McKenzie of Red Deer and numerous relatives. She was predeceased by her father Alex and her brother Norman. A memorial service will be held at the Rocky Nazarene Church on Saturday, July 9th at 1:00 pm with Reverend David Holmes conducting the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the 'Rocky General Hospital, Palliative Care Unit' or the 'Canadian Cancer Society'. Sympathies can be forwarded to the family at grholmes@telus.net
