PETER: Julia (Aka Lea)

Born in Budapest, Hungary June 13, 1926, died peacefully January 22, 2018. From her beginnings in Europe where she completed her education; survived WWll, to arriving in Canada with two sons, a loving husband, Lea learned her 5th language (English). Years later a daughter was born.

After moving around BC and AB, the family settled in Red Deer, AB, where she taught French and German at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School until retiring in 1985. Lea championed educational opportunities for her students to travel to Europe and also to compete in language competitions where they often won top scores surpassing students who were competing in their mother tongue. It was in Red Deer where Lea joined various groups and volunteered and showed her prized Puli winning several prizes.

In 1998 she and her husband moved to Kelowna, BC. The beauty of the Okanagan and warm climate simplified the decision to move nearer to their daughter. Here, her main interests developed to sharing her knowledge and love of history and art with friends and members of Seniors Learning in Retirement. Predeceased by her husband John, grandson Lindsay; and MIA son Henry, Lea is survived by her son Les; daughter Judy (Brendan); granddaughter Sarah (Josh) great grandson's Trystan and Nathan, as well as extended family in Montreal, Switzerland and Hungary.

A special thank you to Dr. Kelly Goutier; Dr. M. Delorme; Dr. Louw; and Sutherland Hills Nursing Home nurses and caregivers for their specialized care.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to an SPCA of your choice would be appreciated.  A celebration of life will be held at The Salvation Army Community Church, 1480 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna, BC on March 9th, 2018 from 1:00pm to 3:30 pm.
