It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karen Cecilia Olson of Red Deer. Karen passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Monday, April 28, 2014 at the age of 62 years. She was born in Camrose, Alberta on July 15, 1951 and grew up on the farm outside Duhamel, Alberta along with two siblings, Barbara and Rod. Karen lived in Taber, Alberta until 1988 when she then moved to Red Deer. She was employed as a teacher for 30 years and taught at Riverglen School for the last 20 years until her retirement in 2011. Karen was also a volunteer for 20 years with Central Alberta Teachers Association (CATCA). She is lovingly remembered by her husband Grant, two sons, Cory and Mark (Tonya), mother Clara, two grandchildren, Samuel and Nolan, brother Rod (Crys) and sister Barb, as well as nieces, Kaitlyn and Elizabeth and nephews, Geoff and David. A Celebration of Karen's Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 - 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Central Alberta Cancer Centre, 3942 - 50A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 4E7.
