Kathleen (Kay) Grant of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on October 6, 2014 at the age of 91 years. Kay is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Sharon Grimshire of Red Deer and Carrie Grant of Calgary; granddaughters, Taryl Grimshire (Kelvin) of Calgary and Tanya Grimshire-Tanna (Aroop) of Brighton England; and by her great grandchildren Saige and Shalin Tanna of Brighton England, together with several nieces and nephews in Canada and England. Kay was predeceased by her husband Patrick Grant, daughter Elaine Grant, her parents James and Gertrude Moylan; sister Mary Morris and brothers Patrick, Michael (twin) and Bernard. Kay was born in Pachmarhi, India on June 18, 1923, where her father was stationed with the British Army. She was raised in Leicester England and lived there until she left to serve in the British Army in WWII near Brighton, where she met Patrick Grant who was serving in the Canadian Army. They were married on October 6, 1945 in Leicester, England. Kay left England in 1946 as a British War Bride and travelled to Canada on the Queen Mary where she began her married life in the Vermillion area in Northern Alberta. Kay was actively involved in the community, having worked and volunteered at Parkland School for over thirty years. Kay will be remembered for her love of her family, celebrations with family and friends, gardening, and the passion that she shared with her husband and many friends of dancing and music. A special thank you to Dr. Hoftner, Dr. Metcalfe and to the staff on Unit 33 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 1 p.m., 6 McMillian Avenue Red Deer, Alberta. Cremation entrusted to the Red Deer Funeral Home.
