March 20, 1922 - September 8, 2020
Our joyful, loving mother, Kathleen (Kay) Roth passed away on September 8, 2020 and is now with her heavenly Father. It was a life well-lived of 98 years. She will be missed, but remembered and treasured by all who knew her.
Kay was predeceased by an infant son, husband Ben, brother Jim Toal, sister Mary Peterson, daughter Pat Creurer, son Bernie Roth and sons-in-law Bob Collis and Bob Creurer. She is survived by her sister, Nora Toal and her daughters Mikki Collis, Heather (Ray) Faucheux and Mary-Ellen (Ron) Pearson, 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Kay was born on the farm near Loverna, Saskatchewan on March 20, 1922 to hardworking, community-minded, Irish parents. She had many fond memories growing up on the prairies with her three siblings, especially the plays, Christmas concerts and field days associated with time spent at Antelope Park
School.
She left the farm after high school and went to Calgary, where she worked in housekeeping at the Holy Cross Hospital. She saved her money and put her self through Henderson's Secretarial School. Upon completion, she got a job in Red Deer and while she was working, she met Ben Roth. They were married on June 25, 1945 and enjoyed over fifty years together. They raised five children and mom's biggest joy in life was her family.
Kay was very involved with the Catholic Women's League at both Sacred Heart and St. Mary's parishes in Red Deer. CWL was the source of many of her lifelong friendships.
She also canvassed for cancer, every April, for over 30 years. Kay spent hours baking and enjoying the flowers and produce from her garden. During the winter months, she would crochet beautiful Afghans to give to her family.
She travelled to Ireland, Hawaii, New Orleans and St. Louis. Her faith was always important to her, whether it was praying the rosary at home or attending daily mass. She wanted to be known as a follower of Jesus. After the children were grown, Kay worked at the Red Deer Nursing Home for several years. She spent the last ten years of her life residing at Northcott Care Centre in Ponoka. We want to thank the staff for their love, concern and excellent care of our mom. We also want to thank mom's friendly visitors Lynne, Gail and Irene who visited on a weekly basis and attended teas and birthdays, both with the family and when we couldn't be present. Dementia slowly took mom away from us these last ten years. Her faith-filled life enabled her to make the most of everyday. We will remember her as a kind, patient, unselfish, joyful, loving individual. She brought out the best in all of us. We will miss having her in our lives, but we are consoled and happy for her, knowing that she is free from pain and with the angels.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Red Deer on Friday, September 18 at 1:00 pm. The rosary will be said prior to the funeral mass at 12:30 pm. Due to COVID-19, if you wish to attend the funeral, please contact the family before Friday. Eventide Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to St. Mary's Church or the charity of your choice.
