It is with heavy hearts we share the loss of Kathryn Ann McDonald.
On September 1, 2020 at the age of 58 Kathy lost her long battle with inflammatory breast cancer. Every difficult step of her journey was met with grace, courage and humour. Kathy passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side.
Kathy McDonald (Iverson) was born June 13 1962 in Stettler Alberta to Wally and Lillian Iverson. She was the youngest of four children. Kathy spend the majority of her childhood and youth in Sylvan Lake Alberta, where she graduated from HJ Cody High School as Valedictorian. From her time in Sylvan, she maintained strong ties to her friends all of her adult life.
At the age of 18 Kathy took a chance and moved to the big city of Calgary to attend Mount Royal College. There she went on to obtain her Public Relations Diploma. She enjoyed a diverse range of exciting career opportunities, including broadcasting, shopping mall marketing and new business development for a major local law firm. She brought tremendous skill and passion to everything she did.
In addition to her work life, she enjoyed many hobbies, including quilting, her Book club (the BBL's) and her Janus Parents Supper club. She also enjoyed live theatre, Flames hockey games with Hubby, as well as walks, coffee and lunches with her many friends. She always found time for friends and family, putting their needs before her own.
Kathy was a fierce advocate for the autism community in Calgary, especially for her boys Andrew and Ryan. She was also a tremendous and willing resource for any and all who needed guidance through the complicated world of school, government and finding supports for their children affected by autism. Kathy worked tirelessly on fundraising for Autism causes, including the Janus Academy where she served on the Board of directors.
Survived by her beloved husband Scott and her two beautiful boys, Andrew and Ryan. Her sister Brenda (Terry), brothers Barry (Janet) and Ted. Nieces Christy, Laura and Pam, and nephews Adam and Lee. Kathy's smile, encouragement, strength and love will be forever missed.
