Katie D Hofer

1929 - 2017

Quietly and peacefully, our devoted mother, loving grandma, great-grandma, and loyal friend left our world and passed into the garden of God, February 15th, 2017. She was undoubtedly greeted by her love, David K. Hofer, with open arms. Katie, daughter of John and Susie Hofer, was born November 2nd, 1929, in Menno, South Dakota. At the age of two years, Katie moved to Wolf Creek, Alberta. From there, she moved to Lakeside Colony, where she married her best friend and soul mate, David K Hofer. She later moved to Pine Hill Colony and finally settled at Rainbow Colony. Katie dedicated her life to the colony, and was a great mentor and teacher. For 13 years she faithfully devoted herself to her duty as head cook. "I loved every minute," she said. Grandma was a devout wife; she was Grandpa's greatest fan and supported him through each of his many endeavors. Katie loved teaching her children and grandchildren about Christ's love and mercy. To all who knew her, Katie was an unwavering part of the community. Her profound faith was clearly evident in the way she met each obstacle life threw at her with great courage and humility. Grandma adored company and had a genuine love for all people. She will be remembered by all for her honesty and graceful hospitality. Katie is survived by six children, Mary (William) Hofer of Murray Lake, AB; Susie G. Hofer of Loring, MT; John (Bertha) Hofer of Rainbow, AB; Dave Hofer of Red Deer, AB; Lydia (Pred. Samuel) Stahl of Bluesky, AB; and Matilda (Larry) Stahl of Gildford, MT; also 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Katie was predeceased by her husband, David; her parents; four brothers, Pred. John, Mike, Pred. Paul, Joe; one sister, Susie; one daughter, Kathrina; a son-in-law, George; and one grandson, Lawrence. Grandma left for us to cherish memories of her prodigious kindness. She never failed to make her family and acquaintances feel worthy. Her caretakers were met with smiles of love and appreciation. Warmth seemed to radiate from every part of Grandma's being. A Funeral Service will be held at Rainbow Colony on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
