KOZAK Mrs. Katherine "Kay" Kozak (nee Reis) of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Centennial Centre, Ponoka on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the age of 78 years. Kay was born in Mendham, Saskatchewan on September 10, 1930. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Rimbey. At the age of 17 years, Kay married George Stern, and to this union four boys were born. They lived in the Lavesta District where Kay helped with the farming, checked gravel on road construction, and did the mail route. In 1988, Kay was united in marriage to Allan Kozak, and has resided and worked in the Rimbey area since. "She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends." Kay will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 21 years, Allan; her sons, Eric Stern of Edmonton; Earl (Carol) Stern also of Edmonton; John Stern of Spruce Grove; and Marty (Simonne) Stern, also of Spruce Grove; and her stepson, Craig Kozak of Victoria, B.C.; as well as sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered by two brothers, Joe Reis of Rimbey; and Fred (Thordis) Reis of Red Deer; and three sisters, Annie Krossa of Rimbey; Mary (Albert) Odenbach of Rimbey; and Edna Reis of Calgary; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and close friends. Kay was predeceased by her parents; and two sisters, Elsie Neutsling and Rose Parker. A Public Memorial Gathering in Celebration of Kay's Life was held at the Rimbey Community Centre, Rimbey on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Kay's Memory may be made directly to the charity of one's choice.
