ERNST LaVerda (Verdie) Ernst, beloved wife, mother and grandmother quietly passed away at home at the age of 80 years. Born in Trochu to Clarence and Anna Layden, she was raised in the Mayton area. Verdie was wed to Carl Ernst January 26, 1944 and spent their 63 years in the Innisfail area. Verdie will be remembered as a lady with a heart and a home open to all. She embraced life and lived her faith surrounded by family and friends. Verdie is survived by her loving husband Carl; three daughters Carol (Stewart) Bennett, Frances (Kurt) Walz, Linda (Larry) Cornell; one son Gerald (Janice); 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four sisters Eileen (John) Keller, Elva Knight, Gertrude Budd and Doris Schnieder; sister-in-law Genny Layden; many wonderful sisters and brothers-in-law by marriage and numerous nieces and nephews. Verdie was predeceased by her parents, two brothers Wilfred and Raymond; brothers-in-law Robert, Burt, Chester and Alfred. A rose in winter, sunshine on dreary days, loving councilor, safe confident and unconditional love. Thank you Mom. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #104, Innisfail. Interment to follow in the Innisfail Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made directly to Alberta Diabetes Foundation. As a tribute to Verdie Ernst, a tree will be planted in the Heartland Tree Memorial Park, Innisfail.
