Leendert VANDERWEKKEN

December 7, 2005

VANDERWEKKEN, Leendert Leen was born June 17 1908 and went to his eternal home on December 2, 2005. He was born in Duivendijke Zeeland, The Netherlands. He grew up on this island and took his schooling and at the age of 15 he moved to North Holland with his parents and siblings. He was an accountant and a clerk in an executive position for a firm, trading in orders of coffee and chocolate for processing from different parts of the world. He worked there from the young age of 18 until retirement at age 70. He spoke 5 languages fluently in his earlier years. His love for travelling had him in Canada several times until his immigration to this land that he was fond of in 1982. The highlight of one of these trips was bringing his car to New York, accompanied by his sister, and then travelling through the States. Leen and his best friend and brother Joe drove all the way to Alaska. He became a Canadian citizen in time. He worked faithfully in church and enjoyed many of the trips with the Seniors from the Lacombe area. Loving fishing, he used to sit by the lake on a quiet afternoon with a nice cigar and enjoy the scenery and solitude. The cold weather in Alberta did not deter him from going fishing. He would be on the ice for a few hours at least twice a week if possible, although in the last year his health held him back from his favourite activity. He was predeceased by his parents, Jan and Jobbina Vanderwekken and all of his siblings except for his sister Tina Vander Leden who is living in The Netherlands. Leen is survived by many nephews and nieces both in Canada and the Netherlands. We thank all of you who provided him with a means to be able to attend church services and other activities in the last years. Funeral Services will be held from Bethel Christian Reformed Church 5704-51 Ave. Lacombe on Thursday, December 8, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Lacombe Fairview Cemetery.
