ERICKSON-MEWHA (nee BISHOP) 1922- 2008 Mrs. Helen Bishop - Erickson-Mewha, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice on Friday, March 14, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Helen was born on March 12, 1922 at Youngstown, Alberta. She spent many years teaching in country schools, finishing her long and dedicated career in Cremona. Helen and Harold raised their family while they built and operated a successful business in Elkton. Her life was filled with her family, furthering her education and volunteer contributions to the community ladies groups and the curling club. Helen moved to Red Deer following Harold's passing and her retirement. She served many years as a volunteer and board member at the Golden Circle and the Red Deer Museum. In her retirement years Helen wrote her memoirs which are published in a book "Enduring Love". In 2000 Helen received the Mayor's Recognition Award for Citizenship, Continuous Voluntary Service. Throughout her life, Helen's strength of purpose and her commitment inspired all those who knew her. She is lovingly remembered by her large family, three children, Sylvia (Reza) Nasseri of Edmonton, Diane (Walter) Kubanek of Red Deer, Lorne (Lori) Erickson of Bentley, ten grandchildren, David Layden (Shannon), David Nasseri (Johanna), Shaheen Nasseri, Michael Nasseri, Walter Kubanek (Amy), Emily Bonnet (Laurent), Erica Kubanek, Clinton Erickson (Anna), Jenna Erickson, Brett Erickson, four great grandchildren, Coulter and Kyli Layden, Lukas Nasseri and Alexander Kubanek, a brother, George Bishop, two sisters, Marion McLellan, Dorothy Bishop and her three step-children and their families, Priscilla Popilchak, Don Mewha and Kay Berggren. Helen was predeceased by her loving husband Harold Erickson, her second husband, Bill Mewha, her parents, Clinton and Laura Bishop and a brother, Duane Bishop. A Celebration of Helen's Life will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapels, 4820 - 45 Street, Red Deer on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations in Helen's honour may be made directly to the Golden Circle, 4620 - 47 Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 6C3, Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4R 3S6 or to the Alberta Lung Association, Box 47400, Stn.
