Thompson, Leora Josephine - passed away peacefully, with family at her bedside, at Michener Extendicare Red Deer, on July 5, 2020, 17 days from her 102nd birthday.
Beloved Mother to Kathryn (Hardy) Sonnenberg, Peggy (Dennis) Freeman (both deceased), Jane (Jock, deceased) MacDonnell, Victor (Lynn) Thompson, Dan (Merrena) Thompson, Debby (Milt) Olsen, Barbara (Guy) Breau, and Roberta (Raymond) Dixon.
Beloved grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great grandmother, (several with whom she shared a special bond).
Beloved sister, and globe trotter companion to Lillian Rideout, the last remaining of her 10 siblings.
Leora was incredibly steadfast and loving in her commitment to family. She believed in the importance of a good education, establishing a personal spiritual connection, and being true to oneself. Thank you God for blessing us with Leora's life!
A short while back, her answer, when asked about the secret to living a good long life was "Well, be kind" and after a brief pause she added, "and be happy."
Thank you Dr Mah for your many years of professional and compassionate care for our mom. Leora held Dr. Peter Mah in the highest regard as her long time trusted exemplary family physician. Thank you very much!
Thank you to the attentive staff at Michener Extendicare, especially Unit 3300 and supports. You helped "little grandmom" live out her remaining days in leisure through your loving care. Thank you also to her fellow unit resident friends. Your kindness will be remembered always.
And Thank you Leora! During your long life you embraced and warmed many hearts. Thank you for your relevant and timely words of wisdom, and for giving of yourself the very best you had to offer. Everyday!
No public service will be held. It was the year of the first pandemic when Leora entered the world, and she has chosen to leave us during the second. The virus didn't catch her, neither coming nor going. In the end, her body simply gave way after 101 years 11.5 months.
Interesting that Leora was an avid moon watcher. She especially enjoyed observing when the moon was full and bright, just as it was on the very evening of her passing.
Rest easy in God's hands our #1 MOM.
