Dr. Iain Younger was the middle son of Lt. Col Lewis Younger, D.S.O., O.B.E., M.C. and Bars, and of Margaret Isobel Stewart Younger, L.R.S.M. and A.R.C.M. Schooled in Edmonton at Westward Ho School for Boys and Old Strathcona High School, as well as the University of Alberta from which he graduated with B.Sc. and M.D. (Honours) degree. He served as a Captain with the R.C.A.M.C. in WW II.
In 1946 he married Lorelei Fitzpatrick, R.N. They both practiced at the Alberta Hospital Ponoka and the University of Alberta Hospital, until departing for Minneapolis, Minnesota for three years of postgraduate studies in Surgery. When they returned to Calgary in 1952, Iain practiced Ear, Nose and Throat specialty for 12 years with the Calgary Associate Clinic.
He joined the Kinsmen Club and, for recreation, raised golden retriever dogs, established his own photography lab, and enjoyed music, reading and curling while helping to raise his three young children.
In 1964 he moved his practice to Red Deer and enjoyed 43 years of life in nature-loving College Park before moving into a condo. He retired from medicine in 1986 to care for his ailing wife, Lori, who was developing Alzheimer's Syndrome. After three years at home she was wonderfully cared for in the Richard Parsons Auxiliary Hospital for 12 more years, where he visited daily.
After Lori's death Iain embraced socializing at the Golden Circle, Historical Society, library, local events, day trips and mountain getaways. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Lorelei and brothers Alan and Keith. He leaves three children: Cameron, Ritchie and Keltie, six grandchildren: Cole, Chad, Caylin, Clinton, Thor and Wilde, and very special friend, Barbara Swinton.
Also survived by nephews Dave and Bob Younger and Glen Fitzpatrick in Edmonton area, cousin Flora Stewart in Scotland and others in Canada and the UK.
His ashes will be interred next to Lorelei's in Red Deer Cemetery at a later date. Eventide Funeral Home.
