BENOIT Linda Jean It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Linda Jean Benoit (Gilbert) on January 9th, 2009 at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton at the age of 57. She leaves to mourn her loss; her husband Joseph and her three children Ryan (Robyn), Lindsay and Melissa and her treasured grandson Evan. Her Parents Morris and Peggy Gilbert and her brothers, Dale Gilbert and Parry Gilbert and sisters, Karen Jackson and Debbie Kozmyk plus a multitude of nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters in law. Linda was born in Calgary, AB on January 13, 1951. She attended school in Calgary and graduated from Viscount Bennett High School in 1969. She moved to Edmonton to train as a psychiatric nurse and there she met her husband Joe. After becoming a registered psychiatric nurse she worked at the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton then moved to Calgary in 1973 to continue her work as a psychiatric nurse. In 1976 she married Joe Benoit and they resided in Calgary. Their first two children Ryan and Lindsay, were born in Calgary. In 1981 they moved to Red Deer where their third child, Melissa was born. Linda was an extremely loving and nurturing mother to her children and guided them in all aspects of their lives. In 1994 Linda graduated from Canadian Union College with an Education degree. She taught Special Education in Red Deer until 1999. Linda moved with her husband to Saudi Arabia in 1999 where they lived for four and a half years. In December 2003 the desire to be nearer her family proved too strong to resist and they moved back to Red Deer where she lived until her death. Linda's greatest passion and joy was her children and grandson Evan. She was a dedicated teacher including teaching English as a Second Language in Saudi Arabia to nurses recruited from many different countries. She made many dear friends who will miss her. She also traveled extensively in the Middle East, Asia and Africa as well as Europe. After her return to Red Deer in 2003 Linda volunteered her time teaching English as a Second Language at Red Deer College and fundraising for the Red Deer Hospice Society. Her passing leaves a gaping hole in the hearts of all her family and friends. A Funeral Service for the late Linda Jean Benoit will be held on Saturday, January 17th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 - 67A Street, Red Deer, AB. A Visitation for Linda Jean Benoit will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:55 p.m. prior to the funeral service. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations in Linda's memory can be made to the Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, AB T4R 3S6. In living memory of Linda Jean Benoit, a tree will be planted in the Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium Memorial Tree Park in the Red Deer County, AB.
