LONGACRE 1912 - 2009 It is with heavy hearts and great sadness, the family of Cleo Longacre announce her passing at the Red Deer Nursing Home on Monday September 7th, 2009 with her loving husband Lewis, and family by her side. Cleo was born January 17th, 1912 at Taber, Alberta, the second daughter in a family of eight. She took her schooling in Taber, and Retlaw, Alberta. Following schooling she looked after her younger brothers until marriage to Lewis Longacre on November 6th, 1933. They celebrated 75 years together on November 6th, 2008. Their first home was on a farm in Retlaw, Alberta. In 1935 Deryl was born and Garry in 1938. In 1945 they moved to a farm two miles north of Red Deer, Alberta. This farm was sold to the city of Red Deer, and is now Northland Industrial Park. Cleo was a farm wife who was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She could feed a multitude of people at a moment's notice, and was famous for her cinnamon buns, fried chicken, and apple butter. Cleo enjoyed her garden and was always generous with her produce. She loved to bowl and continued to do so until the age of 90. Cleo and Lewis were great card players and enjoyed many games with their friends. They belonged to the Alaska Camper Club and also the Alberta Roamers. She was a member of the CrossRoads Ladies Club for many years. Cleo loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be lovingly missed by her family and friends. She was little, but she was mighty. Cleo is survived by her beloved husband Lewis, two sons, Deryl (Maxine), and Garry (Laura), both of Red Deer, four grandchildren, Brenda (Ed) Brown of Red Deer, Alberta, Barbara Longacre of Red Deer, Alberta, Rick (Janet) Longacre of Markerville, Duncan (Cheryl) Longacre of Spruceview, and five great grandchildren, Logan, Ryan, and Quenton Brown, as well as Wesley, and Amber Longacre, and numerous nephews, nieces, and in-laws. Cleo was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, and five brothers. Special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at the Red Deer Nursing Home, and Parkvale Lodge, and to Dr. Elliot for many years of service. A memorial service in Cleo's memory will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 - 45 Street, Red Deer, Alberta, on Friday September 11th, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. A private interment will be held at Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. Cremation entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Donations in Cleo's memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
