SORENSEN Lucy Elizabeth "Betty" Betty passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at the Red Deer Nursing Home. Betty is survived by her husband Knud, her children: Anne (Ron) Lennox of Fort St. John, Bruce (Heather) of Red Deer, Bob (Cindy) of Ponoka, Don (Gina Stewart) of Blackfalds, and Lori (Rob Edmunds) of Red Deer. Betty is also survived by her grandchildren: Dana (Jason), Jason (Donna), Karen (Jordan), Jesse (Matt) and Cody, Mark (Tiffany), Adam (Jennie), Neil (Lindsey), Chrissy (Blake), Craig (Amy), Brittany and Kristen; as well as ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by her only niece Shelly (Rob) Zugec and their three children of Edmonton. Betty was born and raised in Hudson Hope, BC, where she was home schooled. She did barrel racing with her horse "Brandy" and won ribbons and trophies. Betty was an accomplished artist and taught painting at the Red Deer College and the Golden Circle. She worked at Peavey Mart for six years and twelve years at Michener Services in the laundry department until she took ill in 1991. Betty was a hard worker and never missed a day of work. She loved to play "bingo", bowl, and play a competitive game of canasta and crib. She also loved to go camping with their many friends. Betty was predeceased by her parents Jack (1938) and Sarah (1986); her brother Harry in WWII, as well as her brother and sister-in-law Jerry (Audrey) in 2006. A funeral service for the late Betty Sorensen will be held from Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67A Street, Red Deer on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at l:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, #101, 5208 – 53 Avenue, Red Deer, AB T4N 5K2.
