M. Wayne

May 15, 1945 – November 7, 2014

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne on November 7, 2014 after a brief illness. Wayne leaves to mourn his passing the love of his life, his spouse Loraie Dallke, his daughters Sherri-Lynn (Scott) Gurney, Michelle Brown (Rick), step-daughters Lucille (Maurice) Chislett, Sheola (Karl) Menzies, grandchildren Brandon, Asha and Ian, his brother Barry (Karen) Brown, his sister Barb (Gord) Nichol, numerous extended family members and many friends. Wayne was predeceased by his parents Laurison and Laverne Brown. Wayne was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and grew up in Killarney, MB. He moved to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba and began working for the Manitoba Telephone System in 1966, retiring as district manager in 2003. He was an avid golfer, loved sailing, playing and coaching hockey, gardening and “puttering”. Wayne loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a proud husband, father, step-father and grandfather. He and Loraie enjoyed their first years of retirement spending their summers sailing on their sailboat at Gimli, Manitoba and winters in Red Deer, AB. They also enjoyed travelling around the world to places such as Australia, Hawaii, Mexico, Florida and throughout North America. In December 2008 at the age of 63, Wayne suffered a life altering stroke. Even though he faced many limitations during the past six years he remained positive and enjoyed life to the fullest. He entered Red Deer Regional Hospital on November 1st and had his family by his side until his passing. He was loved by all that knew him and he will be greatly missed. Thank you to the Red Deer Regional Hospital staff who provided exceptional care and compassion to Wayne and his family during his last days. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Red Deer Funeral Home, 6150-67 Street, Red Deer.
