Mabel ELLESTAD

November 24, 2004

ELLESTAD, Mabel Mrs. Mabel Jean Ellestad (nee Jaffray) of Red Deer, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre surrounded by her family, after a sudden stroke, on Sunday, November 21, 2004 at the age of 82 years. Mabel was born on January 27, 1922 at Lockhart, Alberta, near Rimbey where she grew up with her brother, Jimmy and her sister, Edith. She attended the University of Alberta Normal School and proceeded to teach in many rural one-room schools until she moved to Red Deer. She then worked at Eatons for a brief period. On July 18, 1948, Mabel was united in marriage to Norman Ellestad. After several years, they moved to Erskine where they operated a garage and coffee shop and Mabel taught school. The family then moved to Blackfalds, where Mabel taught at the Michener Centre and later worked at Sears. Mabel and Norman were loving parents to their children. They shared forty-two years together before Norman's passing in 1990. Mabel then moved to the Pines Lodge where she resided until her passing. The Pines became her home very quickly in large part due to the caring and loving attention she received from the staff and her many friends at the lodge. She was an active member of the United Church and the choir wherever she lived. Life will not be the same without her. Mabel's legacy is her unconditional love and caring spirit and her memory will be cherished by all the lives she touched. Mabel leaves to mourn her loss her loving children, Faye (Blaine) Read, Terry (Cathy) Ellestad and Brenda (Art) Barrett and her six grandchildren, Angela, Trevor, Blake, Taryn, Lindsay and Brett. She will also be sadly missed by numerous other relatives and dear friends. Mabel was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norman, her parents, James and Margaret Jaffray, a brother, James Jaffray and a sister, Edith Stronstad. Relatives and friends are invited to come and pay their respects one hour prior to the Life Celebration. A Celebration of Mabel's Life will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapels, 4820 - 45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Blackfalds Cemetery, Blackfalds, Alberta.
