MALO, (nee Wyder) 1925 - 2006 Helen Malo passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre in the early morning on Sunday, September 17, 2006 at the age of 80 years, after a brave and lengthy struggle with pancreatic cancer and the aftermath and complications of a stroke. Helen was born on November 18, 1925 in Kenora (Melick), Ontario. She grew up there with her childhood friend, Jack Malo who would become her husband, lifelong partner and dearest friend. Married for forty-nine years, Jack and Helen raised three children; Jim, Roberta and Tom. They moved to the West and settled in Red Deer in 1956. Helen dedicated her life to her husband and family. She treasured her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, her home, flower gardens and pets. Helen worked for many years at the Michener Centre as a Supervisor for Housekeeping. She enjoyed her work and made many good friends of Staff and Residents. She was a much valued employee. Helen enjoyed the simple things in life. She was generous to a fault, exhibited the traits of caring, sharing, kindness and thoughtfulness to all. Her passion was her yard and her flowers; golfing and cross country skiing with Jack; crocheting afghans for family and friends. We will always remember Helen for the unconditional love that she shared with all. Helen leaves to mourn her loss, her children, Jim (Joan) Malo of Markerville, Roberta (Marvin) Lipka of Lethbridge and Tom (Christine) Malo of Innisfail. She also leaves to remember and treasure her memory, her grandchildren, Denise Pinder and her children, Samantha, Brook and Sky; Scott (Laurissa) Lipka and their children, Emma and Kate, Jennifer Rees and her children, Brandon and Kyle, Trevor Lipka, Mike Lipka, Josh Malo, Jenny (Cody) Malo and daughter, Olivia Noel, and Jeff Malo. As well, Helen is survived by her sister, Anne Sasena of Pennsylvania, her brother, Paul (Joyce) Wyder of Kenora, Ontario, her brother-in-law, Bud (Eleanor) Malo of Calgary, as well as many other relatives and dear friends. The time spent together over the years will always be treasured by her close Sunnybrook neighbors and friends, Iris and Gary Burch, Jeane and Rod Webb and Art and Yolande Stubbs. Helen and Jack loved their friends from BSI; Bob and Mary Sinclair; Lee and Julie Miller and Bill and Isla Hobson. Other very special friends include Doreen Mumby and Rita and Tom Wells. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack in 1995. Prayers will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. Friends are welcome to attend. A Public Funeral Service will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820-45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, September 22, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Red Deer Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. Jim, Roberta and Tom would like to thank the many Doctors who cared for their mom over these last difficult years, especially Dr. Colin Holmes and Dr. Callisto Tarukandirwa.
