MARCHANT

February 18, 2006

MARCHANT Mr. Richard Franklyn "Rick" Marchant, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Anne Rose Marchant of Red Deer, passed away at his home on Thursday, February 16, 2006 at the age of 86 years. Rick was born on July 26, 1919 at Swansee, Wales. In 1922, the family immigrated to Canada, making there home in Toronto, Ontario. Rick was the fourth child in seven, who idolized his big brother, Fred and took great delight in sisters, Olive, Violet, Linda and Gwyneth. Losing young brother, Roy at infancy was a great family sorrow. Rick had a wonderful childhood growing up in Toronto, playing cricket, roller skating and winning any dance contest in the city with ease. On about this time, the Army was calling. The first assignment Rick had was an officer who came and said “Hey, Marchant, we need someone up there at the Castle to dance with Linda Darnell for the Press and movie people, and you’re the guy. Rick was happy to oblige. Next on to Prince Albert for special training. While there, he met the love of his life, Anne Ross. After marrying Anne, they had five children, each child different from the other, each unique. That’s what he loved most about them. All this time, Rick was working his way up the corporate ladder, retiring as the Vice-President of Westfair Foods. Rick made his home at Victoria Park in Red Deer. His life was made wonderful by the many kind, caring and good friends that he made there, especially his good buddy, Bill. Sharon and Gerry – words are not enough and of course, little Anita. In speaking with our dad’s friends, one word was always used to describe our dad (gentleman) and he was a true and honourable gentleman. Rick will be forever loved and missed by his children and grandchildren. Rick leaves to mourn his loss, his five loving children; Phil and his wife, Bel and their children, Monique and Christopher of Abbottsford, British Columbia, Frank and his wife, Judy and their children, Shelly, Glen and Lori of Langley, British Columbia, Janice and her husband, Greg and their children, Scott, Tanner, Jennifer and Adam of Edmonton, Alberta, Cynthia and her husband, Norm and their children, Eric and Matt of Red Deer and Allister and his wife, Lora and their children, Stuart and Ariel of Toronto, Ontario, and many great grandchildren. Rick was predeceased by his beloved wife, Anne.
