Margaret Aloha Rimbey Moore Marshall

January 8, 2023

July 30, 1920 - January 8, 2023
Margaret (Marnie) Aloha Rimbey was born July 30, 1920, at Rimbey, the beloved daughter of Chester and Ella Rimbey. She was an only child until her brother Don was born sixteen years later. Marnie began playing piano for church, school concerts, funerals and weddings in her teens. She went to the New York world's fair in 1939 and began teaching school in 1940 with an annual salary of $107.00.
In 1944 she moved to Forshee (near Bentley) when she married Charles Allen Moore. On that family farm, Dennis was born in 1946 and Marilyn in 1948. Marnie was a lifelong learner, willing to accept just about any challenge, so during those years as a farm wife, while raising kids, she became proficient in sewing, knitting, photography, painting/sketching, researching genealogy and preserving large quantities of food. Her pie recipe called for thirty-three cups of saskatoons! She designed the home they built in 1962. Marnie and Allen spent two years in West Africa where Allen taught at an agricultural school, but due to his heart issues, they retired to Red Deer where Allen died in 1981.
In March of 1984, Marnie married Philip Lawson Marshall which brought three more children into the family: Wayne, Bev and Ken. Marnie and Phil's years together included lots of music, dancing, camping, hiking and travel. Phil sang in the Forshee Farmer's Chorus that Marnie conducted. She was physically fit and on her eighty-seventh birthday hiked to Siffleur's Upper Falls. Phil died in 2008.
Marnie stayed incredibly active until her mid-nineties, playing with the Golden Music Makers and the Red Deer Community Band until a couple of years before her passing.
She leaves a son, Dennis (predeceased by his wife Marsha) and his three daughters: Christine Garlough (Troy), Jaclyn Berry (Ian) and Erin McLaren (Toliver). Daughter Marilyn, married to Gary Pottage, has three sons: Stephen (Erika), Craig, and Daniel (Andrea). As well there are seven great-grandchildren: Tessa, Deacon, Sawyer, Camden, Norah, Brynn and Andrew. The Marshall family adds six more grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren as well.
A celebration of Marnie's life will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 21 at 2:00 pm. Condolences may be left for the family at
