August 19, 1947 - May 6, 2025
Margaret Ann Estabrooks passed away peacefully in Calgary on May 6th, 2025. Born in Edmonton on August 19, 1947 to Harold and Helena Spencer. She moved to Red Deer in 1950 before finally settling at her permanent home at the "Tracey Bar Ranch" in 1955.
In 1971 she met Manny Estabrooks and married in 1972. They had two children, Amanda (1973) and Spencer (1975). In 1974, she received a diploma from the Chicago School of Interior Decoration.
She was an organizer of events and people. An active member of the Red Deer community, she was Executive Director for the Kiwanis Music Festival for numerous years, the Museum Society, the College Arts Centre, and Symphony to name a few. Her acts of service earned her the respect and admiration of many.
Beyond her style, she had boldness and strength. In 1988 she was instrumental in the development of Mode Models. During this time, she travelled Asia and Europe where she had the pleasure of meeting Karl Lagerfled and André Leon Tally backstage during the Chanel collections. When she was 65 years old, she started competitive powerlifting and broke world records at the World Cup in 2016.
With curiosity and deep appreciation of beauty, she travelled extensively, forming lasting friendships along the way. She found joy in hosting, sharing laughter, and bringing people together. Margaret Ann cherished her family and friends wholeheartedly. Her grandchildren brought her the greatest joy and the brightest light in her world.
She is survived by her husband Manny Estabrooks, her son Spencer Estabrooks and wife Clare Preuss, daughter Amanda Cain and husband Geoff Cain, and their children Harris and Marshall Cain.
At her request, a private memorial service was held on June 10th, 2025. After a sudden and serious illness, she chose to keep her journey private, meeting it with strength, grace, and dignity. She wished to be remembered as she lived—full of life, laughter and spontaneity. Though many will be surprised by her passing, please know she held you in her heart.
