JONES, Margaret Elizabeth (nee Olson)

1917 - 2017

Margaret, (Molly to many), passed away peacefully with dignity and grace at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Monday, February 6, 2017. Margaret was born to Oscar and Enid Olson on the farm at Chigwell, Alberta, East of Lacombe, where she attended school. Married to Charles Jones for 63 years living in numerous Central Alberta locations. Mom always had an "Open Door Policy" while raising seven children, with so many interests her entire life, always making friends wherever she went with her genuine interest in everyone's well being. Mom was a member of the Great Bend Ladies Aid. A music lover, she always enjoyed the music jams at the Delburne Drop in Centre. With children grown, Mom and Dad moved to an acreage in Ardley, Alberta and Mom cooked at the Red Deer Nursing Home for 10 years which she enjoyed immensely. Travels included trips to Hawaii, Britain, Ontario, Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Yukon, North West Territories and most of Alberta. Mom's artistic abilities shone thru when she started painting at age 80. Chickadees being a favorite subject. Her desire to experience a helicopter ride was honored for her 95th birthday which she thoroughly enjoyed. This past August Mom planned and organized a wonderful party for Grand Daughter Dr. Ashlee Jones and her husband Andy from One Tree Island, Australia. Unbeknown to Mom, plans had been made to also celebrate Mom's 99th Birthday that day, which, she thoroughly enjoyed. Margaret is survived by six children, Elaine (Innisfail), Ken (Delburne), Marjory (Gull Lake), Ed (Ardley), Connie (Red Deer), Wendy (Red Deer); 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, two sisters-in-law, Amy Gillard and Polly Olson of Lacombe and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her parents; husband Charles Jones; son Wesley; two brothers; one sister; one son-in-law; four brothers-in-law and one sister in-law. Margaret was a very polite, quiet, undemanding woman who had such an impact on her family, setting high standards to follow. We are so fortunate and grateful Mom. Thank You. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 1:00 pm in the Delburne Community Hall, Delburne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the children's school lunch program at the Mustard Seed, Red Deer, or the charity of your choice.
