Margaret FARR

FARR Margaret “Joan” Joanne Farr (nee Rodway) passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on April 11, 2007 at the age of 90 years. Joan was born in Endiang, Alberta on February 11, 1917. She grew up in both, Halkirk and Castor, Alberta. When she was 28 she married her long-time sweetheart, Edward Farr in Stettler, Alberta on September 17, 1945. The couple moved to Red Deer where their first daughter, Marjorie, was born in 1947. In 1948, the young family moved to Calgary, where Joan worked at Eaton’s as a cashier. Their second daughter, Sherryann, was born there, on March 17, 1952. In 1957, the four of them moved back to Red Deer. One year later, their son, Ken, was born. Soon Joan and Ed started a very successful honey business which they continued to operate until they both retired. She was a surrogate mother to numerous students who came to study in Red Deer over the years, some to this day stay in touch. She volunteered for the Social Credit Lady’s Auxiliary for many years until its dissolution in the 1980’s. She was an active member for many years of The Alberta Prospectors Association along with her family and husband. Before her marriage, Joan worked at the Red Deer General Hospital as a Nurse’s Aid. This experience helped her later, during both her daughter’s severe, childhood illnesses. She also worked as a seamstress for a furrier and in both, a creamery, and a, hatchery. During her life, she was a great mother and grandmother, an excellent business partner and a devoted friend. Joan will be lovingly remembered by one son, Maxwell Kenneth of Red Deer and two daughters; Marjorie Lawrence of Red Deer and Sherryann Farr of New Serepta, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Farr, one daughter, Rhoda Lynn, one brother, Ernest Rodway and two sisters; Dorothy Vahey and Verna Healy. A Memorial Celebration will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 35 (2810 Bremner Avenue) on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Richard Duffin officiating.
