June 11, 1932 - April 2, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Margaret (Hemphill) Hougan announce her passing on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Villa Marie in Red Deer. Margaret was born in Czar, Alberta to Leona (Gray) Hemphill and James Hemphill on June 11, 1932.
Margaret took her nursing training at Lamont Hospital. Afterwhich, she met her husband (Dennis) at a school in Narramata, BC. Margaret put her nursing career on hold to raise their two children in Red Deer and pursued therapeutic touch as a home-based business.
Margaret was involved in her local community, was a long-time member of the Gaetz United Church, and was a member of the Red Hatter's - "Laughing and Living" group. She treasured time spent with her family and friends at home, and at the Pigeon Lake cabin.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, her brother James, her ex-husband Denis and by her daughter Heidi (Hougan) Dandurand - just 9 months earlier.
Margaret is lovingly remembered by her son Leif (Tita) Hougan, and their children, Johan (Chelsea & great-granddaughter Alina), Isabella, and Alejandro of Red Deer, and granddaughter Rachelle (Leonard Johnson) Dandurand of Warburg, Alberta.
She is also remembered by her older sister Shirley (Hemphill) Ronaghan, and her many nieces and nephews that live throughout Canada, Australia, and the USA.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Gaetz United Church in Red Deer, on June 24th, 2020 at 2 pm.
A live broadcast of the service will be available on the Gaetz United Church website and Facebook page for those who cannot attend. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to The Alberta Wilderness Association would be greatly appreciated.
