Our beloved GG passed away peacefully at 95 years of age with her family members at her bedside. Jean was born in Red Willow, AB, a daughter to Neil and Ella McCorkindale. She grew up and lived there until she moved to fulfill her lifelong wish to become a teacher. After attending Normal school in Edmonton, she became a very successful teacher in Fabyan, Tees, Gadsby, Olds and Red Deer, AB. She married Frank Young, who predeceased her in 1999. During their happy marriage they had two daughters, Ella May (Ray) and Aleta (Don) who in turn had five grandchildren, Paul, Mark, Erica (Darwin), Rob and David (Kaley). She was especially proud of her three great-grandchildren, Elliott, McKenna and Bradley. Jean volunteered taking books to seniors through the library program, helped at the Canadian Cancer Society, and was a member in the Order of the Eastern Star for over sixty-four years where she was Past Matron in 1978, in the Venus Chapter No. 2, and was appointed as Grand Representative of District of Columbia, Washington in Alberta from 1988 to 1991, a role she especially enjoyed. Jean loved music and poetry and was the pianist of choice at many Star programs, and fun-filled life events.
A Celebration of Jean's Life will be held by the family at a later date. Internment to be held at the Gadsby Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to a charity of choice. The family would like to thank the staff of the Colonel Belcher, Dr. Easton, and the Alberta Health Services Home Care group, who all contributed so much support and care towards Jean, their amazing "super senior", enjoying her last years and days.
