Margaret MCKINNON

MCKINNON, Margaret Helen ‘Marg’ McKinnon of Red Deer, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at the age of 94 years. Marg was born on August 15, 1911 at Red Deer, Alberta and lived in Leslieville, Alberta. She received her schooling in Leslieville until finishing Grade Eleven and then went on to attend Normal School at Camrose, Alberta. Marg graduated with her Teaching Degree between 1930 and 1931. She taught in a country school for one year and then moved on to live in Eckville, Alberta for awhile. Marg and her mother then moved from Eckville to Bentley, Alberta, where she continued teaching for many years. After that, she moved to Red Deer and had the good fortune to be loaned to the Department Of National Defense. Marg was transferred to France, where she taught for the next two years. Finally, Marg taught Elementary School at Grandview Elementary School in Red Deer until her retirement in 1972. Marg was a very gracious, kind and caring lady whose special way with people brought her many, many lifelong friendships. Everyone who knew Marg loved her great sense of humour and her cheerful friendliness. Marg enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and she also enjoyed knitting and traveling. She had a very special place in her heart for all animals and particularly loved cats. Marg’s special presence and her dear and nurturing personality will be very deeply and sadly missed but she will be lovingly remembered in the hearts of her family and dear friends. Marg leaves to mourn her loss, her nieces and nephews, Norma MacKay of White Rock, British Columbia, Walter MacDonald of Chilliwack, British Columbia, Jean Dobler of Red Deer, Joanne Siepe of Surrey, British Columbia, Judy Bayrak of Fort St. John, British Columbia, Chuck Brosh of Calgary, Alberta, Marlene Chiacchia of Brooks, Alberta; her special caregiver, Kate Stevens of Red Deer; many other relatives to whom she became known as “Auntie Marg” and many dear and faithful friends. Marg was predeceased by her parents, Archie and Edith McKinnon. A Public Memorial Service will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820 – 45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, August 19, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Interment will be held at the Red Deer Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Marg’s honour may be made directly to the Red Deer & District S.P.C.A., 4505 – 77th Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4P 3P7.
