Marty was born Sept. 10, 1931, on a farm outside Estevan, Saskatchewan to Barbara and Martin Fichter. She is survived by her 6 children Alexis (Derek) Olinek, Jackie (Dave) Dicknoether, Sandra Nicol(Dave Shankowski), Georgia (Bruce) Witwer, Paula (Brian) Kelly and James (Ping) Nicol; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her loss; 2 sisters Otilia (Louie) Beaulieu and Ida Morrissey; her sisters-in-law Bessie Creller and Marg (Don) Gee as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marty was predeceased by her beloved husband Ray as well as her sister Annie, brothers Joe, Lawrence and Ted Fichter, brother-in-laws Pat Morrissey and Reid Creller and granddaughter Amanda Walker. Mom was a strong independent woman living in her own house up until the end, as she wanted. She was an avid reader who always had a good book close by, she had a date with the Blue Jays every time they took to the field and loved time spent in her garden. But more than her sweet peas, more than anything, she loved her big family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her strength carried her through many difficult times and allowed her to help others through their own challenges. Her family is so grateful for the unique and special ways she touched each of their lives. She was loved and will be greatly missed. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church 6 McMillan Ave., Red Deer, Alberta, Monday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to Red Deer Regional Hospital, Red Deer Hospice, Red Deer Food Bank or charity of your choice.
