Margarete Marie

Margarete Marie Rosenow passed away peacefully at Red Deer Regional Hospital on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the age of 86 years. Margarete was born on April 8, 1925, the second of three daughters to Konrad and Magdalena Sommer in Plauen, Germany. When Margarete was three her family moved to Eger, Czechoslovakia where she grew up, and married her first husband Gerhard Lindner, who was killed in action during World War II. Following the war she met and married Joachim A. Rosenow and in 1947 their son Gerhard was born. In 1953 their family immigrated to Canada, landing in Quebec City. They subsequently established residency in Guelph, Ontario where their second son Glenn was born in 1957. Her husband Joe passed away on August 5, 1970. In 1975 Gerhard and Glenn moved to Red Deer, Alberta and Margarete followed them to Red Deer the next spring. Margarete worked for Travelaire building cabinets until her retirement in 1990. She lived in her own home, which Gary and Glenn built for her until March of 2011, at which time she made the move to Victoria Park Retirement community. Margarete was a very independent woman who preferred to be in control of her own destiny, and her whole life revolved around her family. Margarete will be sadly missed by her son, Gerhard (Gary) and daughter-in-law, Lynne Rosenow of Ponoka; grandchildren, Kimberley (Andrew) Wilkie of Red Deer, Brendan Rosenow of Lethbridge, Kurt (Felicia Rowsell) Rosenow of Edmonton, Krista Rosenow of Red Deer; and great-grandchildren Judea, Lukas, Adam and Noah of Red Deer. She is also survived by her niece, Karin (Helmut) Weiler and Thomas (Nicole Wilhelms) Polzer of Germany; her sister-in-law, Eileen and her children Malcolm, Melvin, Myron, Cheryl, Michael, Charlene and Darren of Ontario; also by numerous great nieces and great nephews. As well as her parents and husbands, Margarete is predeceased by son, Glenn Rosenow in 2006, and her sisters, Annie Carraro and Ella Polzer.
