HOUSEMAN

Marguerite

1930 - 2014

With saddened hearts we gently pass over our most treasured Mom and loved one into the heavenly hands of God. Mrs. Marguerite Grace Houseman of Red Deer, AB passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the age of 83 years with her daughter Lynda by her side. Marg was born October 19, 1930 in Edgerton, AB and grew up on the family farm in Battle River District near Ribstone, AB where she and her 7 siblings were raised. Through the years they remained a close family getting together when possible and you could always expect some "antics". Mom also maintained close ties with George's family. Mom came to Red Deer where she attained her MDN (Mental Deficiency Nursing) Degree in 1952 at Provincial Training School (Michener Centre). It is there where she met Buster and on August 31, 1953 they were married. Marg worked until the early 60's then became a stay at home Mom and devoted herself to caring for Dougie and Lynda. Later in life Marguerite and George became members of Gaetz United Church, volunteering their time and developing many friendships. Marg could always be relied upon to provide baking for various functions. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, travelling and get togethers with friends. Whenever Dougie was at home she always took the time to play "crokinole" with him. She never really mastered the game, much to the delight of Dougie because he would always WIN! Mom and Dad did everything together and in March, 2009 Marguerite lost Buster after 55 years of marriage. Needless to say, this was a significant life change and a large void in her life. Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Wayne Windross) and special son, Doug. Sisters: Mary Dorland, Gerry Shacker, Ethel Yakimowich, and numerous sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Nellie and Jim Smith, husband George (Buster), brothers Jim, Bob and Bill and sister Eleanor as well as many other special relatives. A Memorial Service in Marguerite's honor will be held at Gaetz Memorial United Church, 4758 Ross Street, Red Deer, AB,T4N 1X2 on Friday March 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Family interment at Alto Reste Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. We wish to thank Dr. Stewart, Dr. Donnelly and most recently Dr. Nogareda, E.R. and R.T. staff for their care. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to Gaetz United Church or charity of one's choice.

Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca.
