DAVIS Marian Laura Davis passed away at Our Lady Of The Rosary Hospital Extendicare in Castor, Alberta on August 28, 2004 at the age of 87 years. Marian was born July 19, 1917 on the Mason family farm north of Delia to Reverend Edward and Frances Longmire. She was the oldest child followed by brother Frank and sister Lois. She went to different schools as her father, a Methodist minister moved to many rural Alberta charges. Marian attended Normal School in Edmonton and then went home to teach in her hometown of Irma during the war. In 1946 she followed her heart and entered the Lamont School of Nursing to become an R.N. Upon graduating she worked at the Lacombe Hospital and the Baker Sanatorium in Calgary before settling into a career in 1952 as a Nursing Supervisor at the Provincial Training School (now Michener Centre) in Red Deer. In 1971 she was appointed the Director of Nursing for the Eric Cormac Centre, a Hospital for mentally and physically handicapped children in Edmonton, a position she held until she retired in 1975. After retirement Marian returned to Red Deer where she actively engaged in her many hobbies. Above all, she loved sharing her time with family and friends. Marian is survived by her loving family - her daughter Carol and son-in-law Edward Ries of Castor; grandsons Francis Ries (Helen) of Aberdeen, Scotland and Andrew Ries of Vancouver, BC; sister Lois Churchill or Red Deer; niece Marilyn Churchill (John) of Richmond, BC; nephew David Churchill (Jocelyn) of Calgary; niece Donna Cameron (Ken) of Drayton Valley and seven great nieces and nephews. Marian was predeceased by brother Frank Longmire in 1928, Mother Frances Longmire in 1969, Father Edward Longmire in 1982 and brother-in-law Stan Churchill in 1986. Funeral services will be held at the Knox United Church in Castor, Alberta on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Barbara Zimmerman officiating. The interment will be held at 4:30 P.M. in the City of Red Deer Cemetery.
