Marion FISHER

April 3, 2009

FISHER Marion Elizabeth "Betty" Feb. 5, 1932 - March 31, 2009 It is with much love and sadness we announce the death of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Betty at the age of 77 after a brief and courageous battle with lymphoma. Betty was proudly born in Innisfail on Feb. 5, 1932, the eldest daughter of Al and Marg Moore. She married the love of her life Leslie Fisher in 1958 and enjoyed 30 happy years together in Innisfail, Lethbridge and back to Innisfail in retirement. We'll all remember Betty for her great sense of humour, she was generous and compassionate and loved to have fun. She was happiest when surrounded by friends and family. She was a wonderful cook, baker and homemaker who always welcomed company in her home (sometimes in the wee hours of the morning.) She loved watching curling, was an ardent Calgary Flames fan and was famous for her sharp mind for dates and details of oldtime Innisfail people and family connections. Betty was dedicated to service in the community and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #104 since 1957. She served on the Executive from 1961-63, 1967-68 and again from 1991 through 1996. She served as President in 1997, 1998 and 1999 and as past President in 2000-2001 and was back on the Executive in 2005 through 2008. She served on the membership and poppy committees as well as working many catered banquets over the years. Betty was honored to receive her lifetime membership in 2003. Betty will be dearly missed by her daughter Colleen; son Greg (Kristi) and her treasured grandson Kieran; sisters Colleen Aspenlieder and Linda (Doug) Gundersen and brother Bill Moore; Uncle Stewart (Florence) Black, Aunt Iris Black, sister in law Jo Moore, brother in law Bob Fisher and beloved sister in law Ivy (Mike) Demeter as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, long time friends and Legion Colleagues. She was predeceased by her husband Les in 1988, father Al in 1952, mother Marg in 1980 and brother Bud in 1998. The family wishes to thank Betty's special care giver Arcela Duqueta for her kindness and dedicated service. Thanks also to the wonderful nurses and therapists in Unit 35 of the Red Deer Regional Hospital who worked so hard to help Betty recover from her stroke in 2007 and enabled her to spend 18 months in her home she loved so much. Thanks also to Dr. Konynenbelt and Tarukandirwa for their dedication and to the compassionate staff in Units 31 and 32 during her final days. A celebration of Betty's life will be held on Monday, April 6, 2009 at 1:00pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Auditorium in Innisfail. Interment to follow at the Innisfail Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to the Innisfail Legion Branch #104 or to the Red Deer Hospital Foundation. Rest in peace Betty, we are incredibly lucky to have had you in our lives and will never forget you. Arrangements entrusted to METCALF FUNERAL CHAPEL, INNISFAIL. Phone: 403-227-3123.
