Marion 'Shirley' Petkau passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Northcott Care Centre in Ponoka, AB. Shirley, one of 6 daughters, was born in Flintoft, SK on June 5, 1940 to William and Margaret Roberton. Shirley married Jerry Petkau on May 3, 1957 and together they had three children. In 1973 Shirley, Jerry and their three children moved to Calgary where she worked for many years at the Calgary Coop. In 2003, Shirley and Jerry moved to Red Deer, AB. In 2011, due to health issues, Shirley was moved to the Northcott Care Centre in Ponoka, AB where she resided until her passing. Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Jerry, on June 7, 2013. She is survived by her daughter Brenda Lee and her husband Dale Peters, granddaughter Kelsey and her husband Adam Wilcott, great-grandsons Nixon and Rowan Wilcott and grandson Parker Peters all of Red Deer, AB; her son Bryant and his wife Susan of Quispamsis, NB, grandson Tyler and his wife Victoria of Gresham, OR and granddaughter Taryn and her partner Jim Dempster of Rothesay, NB; her son Blaine and his wife Kathy of Edmonton, AB. Shirley is also survived by four sisters; Erma Roberton of Herbert, SK, Norma St'Onge of Moose Jaw, SK, Julian Roberton of North Battleford, SK and Betty Ann (Barry) Nichol of Portage La Prairie, MB. She is as well survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and their respective families. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Shirley was also predeceased by her parents, William and Margaret Roberton, her sister Joyce Hansen and an infant brother. A special thank you to the staff at the Northcott Care Centre in Ponoka, AB for their loving care and support during the time Shirley resided at the facility. At Shirley's request there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory may be sent to either the Northcott Care Centre, 4209 - 48 Avenue, Ponoka, AB, T4J 1P4 or the Alzheimer Society of Canada through their online website at www.alzheimer.ca.
