Marjory SHACKLETON

January 15, 2005

SHACKLETON, Marjory Marjory Bertha Shackleton of Ponoka passed away peacefully in the presence of her children on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at the age of 83 years. Mom's life began on July 28, 1921, born to Dave and Ethel Will and big sister Helen in their farm house in the Westling district northwest of Clive, Alberta. She attended Westling School from grade 1-5 and continued grades 6-12 in Clive, earning her senior matriculation. When not perfecting her math studies at school, Mom worked at her father's side on the farm, often told, "you should have been a boy". But as everyone knew, watching this young woman train and ride horses throughout the countryside, her beauty and grace surpassed her tomboy talents. She worked for a short time in the Royal Bank in Lacombe, High River and Brooks. It was in High River at the war time dances that she met her soul mate and dance partner, George Shackleton. They were married at her parents' farm on May 2, 1943. After farming for a short time in Brooks, in 1947 they settled on a farm in the Westling district and operated a successful dairy farm until 1978 when they retired to Ponoka. Mom was a life-member of the Westling Chatelaine Club, a past Matron of the Alexandra Chp. #4 Order of the Eastern Star Lacombe and an ACW member of Clive and Ponoka Anglican Churches. She also worked for over 30 years at VJV Auction Mart and volunteered for many organizations. She especially loved her flowers and working in her yard. She was predeceased by her husband George; her mom and dad, Ethel and David Will; and her sister, Helen Winter. She is survived by her children, Ed (Linda) of Red Deer, Jean Otto (Verne) of Lacombe, Lorna Rost of Ponoka, Tannis Ball (Tim) of Mirror, Wes (Joy) of Clive and Wade of Clive; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. "Mom, you were the best Mom of all". A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, January 15, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Anglican Church in Ponoka and the Interment Service followed at the Clive Cemetery. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to St. Mary's Anglican Church. Funeral Arrangements Entrusted to Bowker Funeral Homes (Ponoka) Ltd. ~A Wombold Family Funeral Home~ 783-3122
