July 29, 1940 - December 2, 2019
It is with great sadness the family of Marlene Brault announces her passing to "the great golf course in the sky" on December 2, 2019 at the Red Deer Hospice.
Marlene was born in Elk Point, Alberta, the second of six kids to Ward and Marguerite
McDonald of Vermilion. She grew up in Vermilion before moving on to Lloydminster AB to begin a career in radio and television. Marlene appeared on CKSA TV in Lloydminster as a programming host as well as writing advertising copy. She followed her dreams of moving to the bright lights and big city of Red Deer in 1961. She worked at CKRD in both the radio and TV operations, writing advertising and occasionally appearing on air. In 1962 she accepted a blind date with Dennis Brault, the man who would sweep her off her feet and they would marry in 1964. In 1966 Dennis and Marlene completed their family with the birth of Jim. Marlene quit working and settled into her role as a stay at home mom. Once Jim was in school, Marlene discovered her passion for golf. She was a long time member at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club and would play a round at least 4 days a week and form many lifelong friendships. Marlene also enjoyed getting together with her girlfriends to play an intense game of Mahjong.
Marlene was predeceased by her husband Dennis, her parents Ward and Marguerite, sister Muriel, brothers-in-law Bill and Doug, and sister in law Lorna.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son Jim (Karen), grandchildren Brittney (Kiel) Chymist and Spencer Brault, and great-grandson Noah Chymist. Also remembered by her siblings Keith (Irma) McDonald, Ralph (Violet) McDonald, Leigh (Wendy) McDonald and Lois Harper. As well as numerous nieces and nephews including Dennis' Aunt Shirley Ludwig and her son Vince (Deb) Ludwig.
The family would like to acknowledge the care and compassion of Dr. Jack Bromley and especially everyone at the Red Deer Hospice and Unit 32 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital.
At Marlene's request, there will be no formal funeral service. The family wishes to invite friends and family to a celebration of life on Friday, December 6th at the Red Deer Golf & Country Club from 1 - 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Avenue Red Deer, AB T4R 3S6
