Mary HERBERT

August 7, 2009

HERBERT Mary Charlotte (Lyons) It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Mary on August 4, 2009, at the age of 82. She passed away peacefully in her sleep after a short illness at the Red Deer Hospital. She was born May 16, 1927 to Winnie and William Lyons. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Allen Herbert; three sons, Victor (Diane), Terry (Pam) and Marty (Pat); seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Gieck, Velma (Red) Hull; one brother, Ken (Helen) Lyons; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father, two brothers, Harry and Maurice Lyons. For over fifty years of Mary's life she was devoted to the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Red Deer. Some of her endless hours of volunteer work included managing the church fair booth. She enjoyed providing rides to the elderly ladies of the church who could not drive themselves. She took great pride and enjoyment with the many hours spent quilting both for the church and friends. Mary was also a member of the church choir for many years. Her time came too quickly. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of the person's choice. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church Friday August 7, 2009 at 4 p.m. with lunch and fellowship to follow at Sierra on Taylor Drive, 4512-42 Ave. Red Deer.
