Mary Katherine "Kathy" Doherty (51) formerly of Red Deer passed away peacefully in Calgary after a lengthy battle with emphysema. Born and raised in Lacombe, Kathy is survived by son Patrick Ottawa; mother Delia (Holger) Sorensen, Innisfail; father Bob (Della) Doherty, Oliver BC; brothers Bob, Lacombe; Ron (Jo-Jo) and Jack/Doug (Jan), Innisfail; and sister Marie (Joseph) Gillis, Antigonish, NS; eight nieces and nephews and eight grandnieces and nephews. Kathy was predeceased by her infant brother Maurice. Special thanks is extended to the staff on the Pulmonary Wards of the Peter Lougheed and Foothills Hospitals for their compassion and for making Kathy's final days ones filled with dignity and peace. Kathy will be remembered for her musical and cooking abilities. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday November 19, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, Innisfail. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association, COPD Canada, or a charity of your choice.
