Mary Lou

Mary Lou Armstrong of Red Deer died peacefully at her home on May 13, 2015 at the age of 85 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Allan, and her sister, Betty (Ranney). She is survived by her sons David, Brock and Donald, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mary Lou was born and raised in Edmonton. She and Allan met while attending the University of Alberta, where they were active in many groups including the University Mixed Chorus. After moving to Red Deer to raise their children, they became involved in a variety of local organizations and built a cottage at Sylvan Lake where they spent many happy summers. Mary Lou began working at Red Deer College in 1968 and eventually became Chairperson of the library. She was a founding member and past president of Central Alberta Theatre and produced, directed and acted in dozens of productions. In 1993 she received the Mayor's Recognition Award for continuous voluntary service. In retirement, Mary Lou continued to be involved with local theatre groups, and enjoyed travelling and doing her crosswords. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
