RUSSELL, Mary Mullan 1924- 2007 On October 6, 2007, Mrs. Mary Russell of Red Deer, passed away at the age of 83 years. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her son, Wayne (Wendy) Russell, her daughter, Teresa (Russell) Phillips. Mary was the much loved grandmother of Raegan (Brad) Jorgensen, Ryan Russell, Riley (Susan), Brian (Tanis) Phillips and great grandmother to a new generation, Camille Jorgensen and Joshua James Phillips. She is also survived by her sister, Isabella Johnson, four nieces and one nephew, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. Mary is also survived by many good friends, Ev, Willie, Mary, Iris, Eileen, Arlene, Bernice and Beth to name a few. Mary was born on January 14, 1924 in Broxburn, West Lothian, Scotland. She immigrated to Canada as a “War Bride” in 1944. She made a new life in Canada with her Canadian husband, John “Jack” Russell and their two children, Wayne and Teresa. Mary was a Brownie Leader in North Red Deer for many years; a member of the "Waskasues" then the "Waskabillies". The "Waskabillies" entertained all over Red Deer and district as well as many nursing homes in the area, where they were always a big hit. Mary was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a long time member of the ‘S&B” club. She never lost her Scottish accent, her love of life or her sharp wit and sense of humor. Mary had a lovely singing voice and was also an avid photographer who loved her family, friends and nature as favorite subjects. She received the “Mayor's Recognition Award” in 2007 from the city of Red Deer for her many hours of volunteering. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother and her husband. A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820-45 Street, Red Deer, on Friday, October 12, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations in Mary's honour may be made directly to the, David Thompson Health Region Foundation, CO Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Palliative Care Unit 32, 3942-50a Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 4E7.
