It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mavis Fraser of Lacombe, Alberta announces her passing on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Center. Mavis passed away with family at her side at the age of 80 years. She is survived by daughter Marilyn (husband Don Giesbrecht) of Lacombe; daughter Donna Fraser (husband Michael Klein) of San Rafael, California; grandchildren, Christie Giesbrecht and Scott Giesbrecht; brother-in-law Don Shaw; sister-in-law Bertha Fraser; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Mavis was predeceased by her parents Jim and Violet Health; sisters Sonia Reed, Evelyn Morrice, and Janis Shaw; brothers-in-law George Reed, Alex Morrice, Earl Fraser and Herb Bohning; sister-in-law Isobelle Bohning; beloved son Robert Fraser; and the father of her children, former husband Russell Fraser. Mavis was born in Lacombe and raised in the Meadowbrook District. She lived all her life in Central Alberta, primarily Blackfalds and Lacombe. She worked a variety of jobs throughout her life the most satisfying of which was growing plants and flowers at various greenhouses in the area. Mavis found great pleasure in crocheting, reading, flower gardening, and bird watching. In recent years she resided at Spruce Terrace in Lacombe where she was an integral part of that community. Mavis will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, strong work ethic, and her love and loyalty. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ken Smit, and the staff at Lacombe Hospital and Care Center, for their warmth, professionalism, and compassionate care of Mom. It was so much appreciated by both Mom and our family. A Memorial Service for Mavis will be held at Blackfalds United Church, 4707 Broadway Avenue, Blackfalds, on Friday, June 10th at 1:30 p.m. with a private family burial to follow. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Lacombe Hospital Palliative Care Unit, 5430 47th Avenue, Lacombe, T4L 1G8; the Canadian Cancer Society, Suite #101-6751 52nd Avenue, Red Deer, T4N 4K8; or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, 105-4807 50th Avenue, Red Deer, T4N 4A5.
