JONES, Max

Mar. 18, 1933 - June 18, 2017

F. Max Jones of Clive, AB died peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at 84 years. He was right where he wanted to be - at home on the 2J, with his beloved wife, Oce, and family. Max was born in Lacombe, AB on March 18, 1933 to Kathleen (Katie) and Fred Jones of Morningside, AB. Max spent much of his youth farming with "Uncle" Bill Taylor who planted the seeds of good farming practices and a love of the land in this young and eager protégé. As a young farmer, Max met Oce, the love of his life; they married in 1960 and raised their family, first in Morningside them in Clive, AB to which they moved in 1964. Max attended Morningside School, Victoria High School (Edmonton, AB), Vermilion School of Agriculture (now Lakeland College), and studied Psychiatric Nursing graduating with Honours in 1952 in the Ponoka Mental Hospital. It was there he worked nights, going home to farm during the day. He was a well-read man, he loved farming, family, composing love songs to Oce, and telling his many stories. Anyone who walked into the welcoming embrace of Max and Oce's home would be plied with good food and regaled with good stories. He had an incredible memory for details - people, places, personalities - none of which escaped his pen and memory. He attended a "Cowboy Poetry" Jamboree in 1997, which propelled a prolific 'career' of writing poetry as he entered forced retirement from active farming. He will be sorely missed, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and a trusted friend, neighbour, and confidante. He loved us dearly, and taught us the value of hard work, honesty, diligence, fortitude, silent suffering, and embracing 'family'. He leaves to mourn his beloved, Oce; his daughters, Sandra (Michel) and Kathleen (Sonny); Greg (Shelley), Helen, Rick; 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; Dawn (Tom) and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the Clive Baptist Church, Clive, AB on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 3:00 pm. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca.
