July 21, 2006

McCUTCHEON, DOROTHY JEAN Jean McCutcheon of Sylvan Lake passed away peacefully at Valley Park Manor, Red Deer on Tuesday, July 18, 2006. Jean was born September 4, 1919 in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan and moved with her family to Sylvan Lake in 1921. She remained in Sylvan Lake the rest of her life. Jean's life revolved around her family, church and community. She volunteered her time and talents to many community organizations and church groups, but her focus was always on her family. Mom took great pride in her home and family, offering guidance and encouragement to her sons throughout her life. She was a constant presence in grandchildren's lives and was inspired by her great-grandsons. Family visits brightened her life. Her retirement years were spent in the same little house in Sylvan Lake where she and Doug visited with friends and family. They enjoyed a simple life together for 62 years. Following a stroke in 1998 life changed for Jean and she began to miss all the the church and community activities that gave her so much pleasure. A move to Sylvan Lake Lodge followed by a short stay at Valley Park Manor allowed others to provide care to a tired lady. Throughout her long life she believed in and was inspired by prayer. Jean was predeceased by her parents Percy and Nellie Duffield; brother Clifford Duffield; husband Douglas and Daughter-in-law Brenda. She is survived by her sons and their families -John Douglas "Jack" of Edmonton and his daughters Andra Lucus of Pheonix, Arizona and Dana and Tony Jutting and their children Ryan and Shannon of Mesa, Arizona; Joel and Susan of Sylvan Lake and their children Joanne and Pat Steffes of Sherwood Park, Matthew and Rhonda McCutcheon and great grandsons Jordan and Brady of Kamloops, B.C., James and Marianne and children Karen and Jaclyn of Ardrossan and Jeffery of Port Coquitlan, B.C.. Jean is also survived by her sisters Irene Cudney and Betty Bisallion of Ontario and her brother MacGregor Duffield of British Columbia.
