REID

Melbourne (Mel) Douglas

Nov. 4, 1919 - April 3, 2014

It is with great sadness that the family of Melbourne (Mel) Douglas Reid announce his passing on Thursday, April 3rd at Three Hills Hospital after a courageous battle. Mel was born on November 4, 1919 in Sheffields Mills, Nova Scotia to Marry Louella and Melbourne Harry Reid. He is survived by his loving wife of just short of 68 years, Ruby Reid of Elnora; daughter Merinda (Dave) of Rimbey; son Douglas of Elnora; three grandchildren, Emily, Serena, and Winston; and two great grandchildren, Acadia and Lincoln. He moved west in the early forties, working in logging camps, on thrashers, and breaking horses. He settled in Elnora in 1953 with Ruby and started a farm where his wife and son reside today. Mel will be remembered by many as a kind and generous man. Mel's greatest pleasures were breaking horses, working with cattle, and travelling on his land looking at the animals and scenery. His greatest joys were his wife Ruby and living along the Red Deer River where his ranch is. Mel requested that no funeral be held and that his ashes be put along the banks of the Red Deer River.
